Portraits

The Finns in Newport left behind many portraits of themselves from the 1920’s and the 1930’s. Sadly this project does not know who most of these people actually are. One photograph is signed E. Blom, and one mentions that the photo was taken by “Dentis Studio”, and there are a couple other photographs that are signed. These portraits show what the Finns actually looked like after they had an established community in the town of Newport. It is safe to assume that they dressed as neatly as possible, because there seemed to have been a day in which a photographer, or multiple photographers, took pictures of all the different Finns from Newport. However, a few of the surviving photographs also show so photos of Finns in more regular clothing as well. If you recognize anyone in these photographs (they may be 80-90 years old, but there are people out there that might see their parents, grandparents, or great grandparents, in these photographs), please go to the About Us page for email information. If you think you might know anyone who might know who these people are, make sure you get in contact with them and send them a link to this website. All photographs are from the Richards Free Library in Newport, New Hampshire.
