Liz Torres is a Senior History Major and Political Science minor at the University of North Carolina at Asheville. She was born in Puerto Rico and is currently studying nationalist movements started by Puerto Ricans in the continental United States. Her research interests are primarily Latin American politics and the creation of identity. Although this project is outside of her research interests she has a soft spot for the Blue Ridge Parkway as it holds some of the best memories from her childhood.

Kristen Walden is a Senior History Major at the University of North Carolina- Asheville. When she began her journey as a History Major, she expected to focus on Ancient and Medieval World History. Little did she know she would be captivated by a place and time much closer to home. Her main research interests include Black Mountain College and American politics in the 1930s-1950s, more particularly the American political reaction to and treatment of Communism and Socialism.  An Asheville native,  she is excited to learn more about how the Blue Ridge Parkway has shaped her mountains and community.
